What is Transactional Analysis?

Transactional analysis (TA) is a method of therapy that analyzes how people communicate and interact with each other.

How does Transactional Analysis work?

Transactional Analysis draws on psychoanalytical and humanistic therapy where social interactions (or “transactions”) are analysed to determine the ego state of the client (whether parent-like, childlike, or adult-like) as a basis for understanding human behaviour. During therapy the therapist and client look at the development of the child ego state, how these are integrated into the self, and how these can be replayed in adulthood relationships and other social interactions. It is an excellent model of psychotherapy to address emotional issues, change maladaptive thoughts and behaviours and can be used in both short and long term therapy with individuals and couples.
